The aims and purposes of Newport YMCA

"The NEWPORT YMCA works commercially to RAISE FUNDS for the CHARITABLE work of the Association"

Newport YMCA is a locally based Christian Charity working for the welfare of young people, we are part of the worldwide family of YMCAs. Newport YMCA was founded in 1869 are currently based on Mendalgief Road within the Western area of Newport.

Newport YMCA serves the community by delivering youth work in partnership with Newport City Council, we provide recreational activities and facilities for both young people and adults. We are also home to The Conference Centre where we provide training facilities for many local organisations.

The youth work at Newport YMCA consists of open access youth work sessions, focusing on individual contact with young people and anti social behaviour diversion programmes. The youth work also runs programmes for deaf young people and supports a self programmed rock music project. We support many recreational activities such as Music Theatre Groups, Table Tennis Club, Newport YMCA AFC, City of Newport Male Voice Choir and the Brass Band.

Our work with Newport City Council involves participating in the Young Peoples Partnership and the Newport Voluntary Youth Work Sector Forum. We also participate in the Youth Service planning, delivery and monitoring.

Newport YMCA works closely with YMCA Wales, we support the management of the YMCA residential centre and participate in the work of the YMCA Community College. Our work within the wider YMCA movement involves Y Care International, YMCA Europe, East Jerusalem YMCA and the World Alliance of YMCAs
