It has been a busy start of the
year on the donations front. With the club struggling on and
off the field we are happy to invest £500 into the Players
Fund, which will hopefully see adequate players brought in to
ensure survival in the Blue Square Bet Premier. Our
thanks to Rob Santwris for organising the scheme which has
raised in the region of £15,000 so far, already resulted in
new players arriving at Spytty Park.
Secondly we were sad to hear
about the passing of Bob Basden earlier last year. His wife,
Rose, had contacted the Supporters Club to ask if they could
make a donation to their local junior football club. We have
since sent a cheque for £50 and received a letter from Rose
thanking us for our contribution.
Last but not least, Supporters
Club vice-Chairperson John Hill asked on behalf of Duncan
Jardine of the programme shop for £100 to fund next seasons
ball-boy badges. As many of you already know, every ball-boy
at Spytty gets a goodie bag and the exclusive badges prove to
be a very popular piece.
So, that's £650 in one month
given out to the Newport County family. Remember all our
income either is, or eventually will be invested back into the
football club and good causes, despite just about breaking
even this season.

October
Mark Ovendale Charity football shirt auctions |
 |
|
Many of you would have
noticed the sad passing of former County goalkeeper Mark 'OvenGloves'
Ovendale at the start of the season and all would agree the
memorial match held on 5th October was a great way to
celebrate his life.
For the occasion several
Premiership teams donated signed football shirts to help raise
money for Marks charity which was the Marie Cure Cancer
Support. The shirts were auctioned on eBay by committee member
Chris Richards and the ten shirts sold for than a
better-than-expected £610. Unfortunately there are unavoidable
fees when selling on eBay which, after insertion fees,
final-value fees and PayPal fees that amounted to nearly £90,
the donation was reduced to £520, but thanks to a £50 donation from the Supporters Club
and a £20 donation from Chris, the total being raised for
charity will be £590.62.
A big thank you from all
sectors of the club I am sure, to all who bid on eBay, came to
see the benefit match and took an interest in various
fundraisers for Mark. |
